Mediación entre vecinos
Carmen es ama de casa y estudia a distancia desde su piso bajo. Le costaba una barbaridad concentrarse por culpa de la perra de Stephanie, la vecina de arriba. La perra empezaba a ladrar sin descanso en cuánto se quedaba sola, incluso alguna noche. Stephanie no era consciente del problema y pensaba que Carmen exageraba al quejarse y, simplemente, quería fastidiar. Tras varios meses en esta situación, llegaron a mediación para evitar la vía judicial. A pesar de ser vecinas, nunca habían cruzado más de pocas palabras, Carmen no habla inglés y Stephanie a penas lo hace en español. Pertenecen, además, a generaciones diferentes y no sentían tener nada en común.

En una única sesión de mediación se resolvió el problema. Strephanie se disculpó y descubrió que existen unos collares de citronella antiladridos. Carmen, que llegó a decir que Stephanie le recordaba mucho a su hija que vive fuera, cambio su actitud y, actualmente, incluso, hay días que se queda con la perra en el jardincito del bajo, pues, en realidad, a las dos les da lástima ponerle el collar. Un conflicto, aparentemente sencillo de resolver, pero que podía haber acabado en un Juzgado.
Mediation between neighbours
Carmen is a housewife and studies through distance learning from her ground floor flat. She had a really hard time concentrating due to Stephanie´s dog, her upstairs neighbour. The dog would begin to bark relentlessly when left alone, even sometimes at night. Stephanie was not aware of the problem and thought that Carmen was exaggerating by complaining, and simply wanted to annoy her. After several months in this situation they began mediation in order to avoid legal action. Despite being neighbours, they had barely said anything to one another, Carmen does not speak English and Stephanie barely speaks Spanish. They also belong to different generations and felt they had nothing in common.
The problem was resolved in a single session. Stephanie apologised and discovered that there are anti-barking citronella collars. Carmen ended up saying that Stephanie reminded her a lot of her daughter who lives abroad, changed her attitude, and there are even days when she keeps the dog in her ground floor garden as in reality, both of them don´t like having to use the collar. A conflict, apparently simple to resolve, but one that could have ended up in a court.
