Fundación SOS Canya Campo de Gibraltar, donde comienzan las segundas oportunidades
¡Durante los últimos meses más de cien perros fueron alojados en la perrera de Los Barrios!
Sin su dedicado equipo de voluntarios, estos perros seguirían hambrientos, sufriendo y luchando por sobrevivir en las calles, incluso peor, no habrían sobrevivido en absoluto.
GRACIAS AL EQUIPO SOS
A pesar de su increíble éxito de adopciones siguen acogiendo a perros que necesitan encontrar su hogar definitivo. Una vez más, solicitan voluntarios, casas de acogida y donaciones.
Disponen de una gran variedad de artículos para ayudar y apoyar a SOS, desde camisetas, botellas de agua, pegatinas, cordones, bolsas y tazas y hasta una fantástica colección de artesanías.
Todo ello podrás encontrarlo en sus eventos de recaudación de fondos. A veces incluso montan un puesto en la perrera los sábados.

¿Sabía que cada mes muchos de sus perros son adoptados desde lejos?
Sus perros viajan a nuevos hogares en el Reino Unido, Finlandia y Alemania. En los últimos 5 años, unos 1.000 perros han encontrado un nuevo hogar. Esto es posible gracias a su colaboración con organizaciones benéficas caninas de dichos países y a sus equipos de dedicados voluntarios. Janet Standring, Fideicomisaria y recién nombrada Presidenta de la organización benéfica británica SSD -Spanish Stray Dogs, dice que, tras adoptar a su primer perro, Milo, hace 7 años, la difícil situación de los perros en España le llegó al corazón y se involucró como voluntaria. Fue entonces cuando se enteró del increíble trabajo realizado por el equipo de SOS Canya Los Barrios. Fue esta perrera la que inspiró a la entonces fundadora de SSD a intentar mejorar las vidas de los muchos perros que había allí y, con suerte, traer a algunos al Reino Unido y a nuevos hogares llenos de amor. SSD trabaja principalmente con SOS Canya. Los voluntarios colaboran estrechamente para intentar encontrar la familia más adecuada para cada perro. Se comprueban los hogares y se organizan transportes seguros y acreditados.
Janet afirma que es un privilegio para ella, como fideicomisaria, poder trabajar intensamente junto con los demás voluntarios para garantizar que los perros a su cargo tengan un futuro positivo, libres de inanición, maltrato y abandono. SSD ofrece apoyo de por vida una vez que los perros llegan al Reino Unido. Hacen dos o tres llamadas de seguimiento para asegurarse de que todo va bien. Si hay problemas, se puede recurrir a un especialista en comportamiento o adiestrador.
Hay una página de FB dedicada “Spanish Stray Dog PARENTS” donde los adoptantes pueden compartir experiencias y ofrecer consejos a los demás, ¡además de algunas historias divertidas! Lindsay Poupard, voluntaria de acogida, acaba de recibir su 5º SSD rescatado de SOS Canya. Dice que, después de todo este tiempo, sabe lo mucho que trabajan juntas ambas organizaciones benéficas para asegurarse de que todos los perros son una buena opción para sus adoptantes. Lindsay dice que ambos grupos de voluntarios nunca están demasiado cansados para responder a sus preguntas o proporcionar cualquier orientación que pueda ser necesaria. Por lo general, Lindsay y su familia adoptan perros mayores o con necesidades específicas, ya que son los que a menudo se pasan por alto. Dice que no siempre ha sido fácil, pero que ha recibido un magnífico apoyo de SSD siempre que lo ha necesitado. Entiende que algunos perros necesitan un poco más de tiempo y paciencia antes de que empiecen a confiar y a asentarse definitivamente. Los cinco perros de Lindsay han dado mucho a cambio de su nueva oportunidad de ser felices. ¡Cada perro de acogida viene con su propia historia, el último acogido de Lindsay, Cami, llevaba toda la vida atada a una cadena! Lindsay dice: «Sea cual sea el perro que decidas adoptar, puedo asegurarte de que el cuidado y el respaldo que recibes de ambas partes es insuperable». Queremos expresar nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todos los equipos de voluntarios que hacen que estas adopciones sean un éxito y que los sueños de tantos perros se hagan realidad. Cada pata merece un hogar lleno de amor.
EL NUEVO REFUGIO
El equipo de este proyecto en construcción está formado por un grupo de voluntarios profesionales y con talento. SOS les agradece su dedicación para seguir adelante con los diseños y planos del nuevoedificio. Están entusiasmados y encantados de anunciar su objetivo de instalar 25 pistas en los próximos meses. Esto permitirá reubicar a 50 perros de mayor tamaño, un acontecimiento que les cambiará la vida al liberarlos de sus pequeñas jaulas y llevarlos a un hábitat natural.
Será un logro realmente importante, la realización de un sueño y algo por lo que llevan años trabajando.

Over the last few months more than a hundred dogs were housed in the kennel in Los Barrios!
Without your dedicated team of volunteers, these dogs would still be starving, suffering and struggling to survive on the streets, even worse, they would not have survived at all.
THANKS TO THE SOS TEAM
Despite their incredible adoption success they continue to take in dogs who need to find forever homes. Once again, they are asking for volunteers, foster homes and donations.
They have a wide variety of items to help and support SOS, from t-shirts, water bottles, stickers, lanyards, bags and mugs to a fantastic collection of crafts.
All of these can be found at their fundraising events. Sometimes they even set up a stall at the kennel on Saturdays.

Did you know that every month many of their dogs are adopted from far away?
Their dogs travel to new homes in the UK, Finland and Germany. In the last 5 years, about 1,000 dogs have found new homes. This is possible thanks to their collaboration with dog charities in those countries and their teams of dedicated volunteers. Janet Standring, Trustee and newly appointed Chair of the UK charity SSD -Spanish Stray Dogs, says that after adopting her first dog, Milo, 7 years ago, the plight of dogs in Spain touched her heart and she became involved as a volunteer. It was then that she heard about the incredible work done by the team at SOS Canya Los Barrios. It was this kennel that inspired the then founder of SSD to try to improve the lives of the many dogs there and hopefully bring some to the UK and new loving homes. SSD works primarily with SOS Canya. Volunteers work closely together to try to find the most suitable family for each dog. Homes are checked and safe and accredited transport is arranged.
Janet says it is a privilege for her as a trustee to be able to work hard alongside the other volunteers to ensure that the dogs in her care have a positive future, free from starvation, abuse and neglect. SSD offers lifelong support once the dogs arrive in the UK. They make two or three follow-up calls to make sure everything is going well. If there are problems, a behaviourist or trainer can be called in.
There is a dedicated FB page ‘Spanish Stray DogPARENTS’ where adopters can share experiences and offer advice to others, plus some funny stories! Lindsay Poupard, foster volunteer, has just received her 5th rescued SSD from SOS Canya. She says that, after all this time, she knows how hard both charities work together to make sure all dogs are a good match for their adopters. Lindsay says that both groups of volunteers are never too tired to answer questions or provide any guidance that may be needed. Lindsay and her family usually adopt older dogs or dogs with specific needs, as these are the ones that are often overlooked. She says it hasn't always been easy, but she has received wonderful support from SSD whenever she has needed it. She understands that some dogs need a little more time and patience before they start to trust and settle in for good. Lindsay's five dogs have given so much in return for their new chance at happiness - each foster dog comes with its own story, Lindsay's last foster, Cami, had been on a chain all her life! Lindsay says: ‘Whichever dog you decide to adopt, I can assure you that the care and support you receive from both parties is second to none. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the teams of volunteers who make these adoptions a success and make the dreams of so many dogs come true. Every paw deserves a loving home.
THE NEW SHELTER
The team of this project under construction is made up of a group of talented and professional volunteers. SOS thanks them for their dedication in moving forward with the designs and plans for the new building. They are excited and delighted to announce their goal of installing 25 runs in the coming months. This will allow 50 larger dogs to be rehomed, a life-changing event that will free them from their small cages and bring them into a natural habitat.
It will be a truly significant achievement, the realisation of a dream and something they have been working towards for years.
