Alma Forest, un innovador concepto educativo que consigue despertar el interés internacional

En la Costa del Sol se está generando una aldea global en el colegio de destino Alma Forest, que ahora se ha asociado con Learning Planet, una colaboración entre la UNESCO y el Learning Planet Institute.

El colegio Alma Forest, que comenzó como un centro deliberadamente pequeño creado en respuesta a las investigaciones más actualizadas sobre cómo aprenden los niños y que, además, combina la necesidad de que estos pasen más tiempo al aire libre interactuando con la naturaleza y acercándolaa su proceso de aprendizaje, se ha convertido ahora en un colegio de destino para padres de todo el mundo que buscan unirse a una comunidad de familias con ideas afines que buscan una educación relevante para el siglo XXI. Los 65 alumnos del colegio abarcan 23 nacionalidades, con familias que se han trasladado recientemente desde Costa Rica, Nueva Zelanda, Estados Unidos, Israel, etc.,con el fin de unirse al Alma Forest.

Mucho se ha hablado sobre la importancia y la necesidad de las comunidades. Una comunidad puede describirse como un grupo de personas que viven geográficamente cerca y que comparten intereses comunes. En el caso de los padres del Alma Forest, el interés común es el deseo de que los niños se sientan parte de un entorno seguro y solidario de familias que comparten ideales y planteamientos comunes de vida sostenible, un aprecio por la educación que fomenta la creatividad, la pasión por el aprendizaje a lo largo de toda la vida (donde el juego es un aspecto clave del aprendizaje) y, por último, el amor y el aprecio de estar al aire libre en la naturaleza.

Estudios recientes han puesto de relieve la correlación entre la desintegración de las comunidades y el aumento de los problemas de salud mental de los niños en la actualidad. Ahora empezamos a comprender de verdad que “se necesita una aldea para criar a un niño”. Por todo eso Alma Forest se ha convertido en dich aldea para sus alumnos y esto se refleja en la felicidad y el entusiasmo tanto de padres e hijos.

En línea con el objetivo del Alma Forest de crear un entorno donde cada uno prospere en su descubrimiento del autoconocimiento, la naturaleza y el ingenio, aplicando creatividad e imaginación como pilares de un futuro más resiliente, colaborativo e interconectado, Alma Forest se ha asociado recientemente con Learning Planet. Lanzado por el Learning Planet Institute y la UNESCO el 24 de enero de 2020, Learning Planet se dedica al aprendizaje de las comunidades y sus miembros. Es una iniciativa a largo plazo con la misión de reunir a actores de todo el mundo para identificar, celebrar, mejorar y ampliar soluciones educativas innovadoras hacia futuros sostenibles que garanticen el respeto, el bienestar y la realización de uno mismo, de los demás y del planeta. Learning Planet se define como un punto intermedio: conecta instituciones con movimientos de base e innovadores para ampliar sus ideas. Alma Forest colabora con la Learning Planet Alliance en el marco de su programa Teachers for the Planet y Alma Forest figurará como modelo educativo que inspira dicha acción. Este programa culminará con un acto en la COP28 en colaboración con la Aga Khan Foundation y Teach For All. El colegio Alma Forest está creciendo con fuerza a medida que más familias de todo el mundo se unen a esta comunidad trasladándose a la Costa del Sol.

Alma Forest School, an innovative educational concept that is attracting global interest

Alma Forest School is a Destination School Creating a Global Village on the Costa del Sol and is now partnered with Learning Plant, a collaboration between UNESCO and the Learning Planet Institute.

What started out as an intentionally small school established in response to the most up-to-date research about how children learn, combined with a need for children to be spending more time outdoors engaging with nature and drawing nature into their learning process, Alma Forest School has now become a destination school for parents around the world looking to join a community of like-minded parents seeking an education relevant in the 21st century. The 65 students at the school represent 23 nationalities with families recently relocating from Costa Rice, New Zealand, the United States and Israel, to join the school.

Much has been said about the importance – and indeed, the necessity – for communities. A community can be described as a group of people living geographically close and sharing a common interest. In the case of the parents of Alma Forest, the common interest is the desire for children to feel part of a safe, supportive environment of families who share similar ideals and approaches to sustainable living, an appreciation for education that fosters creativity and a life-long love of learning – understanding that play is an important aspect of learning – and finally, a love and appreciation for being outside in nature.

Recent studies have highlighted the correlation between the breakdown of communities and the increase in mental health concerns for children today. We are now starting to truly understand that ´it takes a village to raise a child´. Indeed, Alma Forest has become that village for its students and this is reflected in the happiness and enthusiasm of its students and their parents.

In line with Alma Forest’s mission to create an environment where each will thrive in their discovery of self-knowledge, nature and ingenuity, applying their creativity and imagination as architects of a more resilient, collaborative and interconnected future, Alma Forest has recently partnered with Learning Planet. Launched by the Learning Planet Institute and UNESCO on the 24th of January 2020, Learning Planet is dedicated to learning stakeholders and communities. It is a long-term initiative with a mission to gather players from around the world in order to identify, celebrate, enhance and scale up innovative educational solutions towards sustainable futures that ensure the respect, well-being and fulfilment of oneself, others and the planet. Learning Planet defines itself as a middle-ground: it connects institutions with grassroots movements and innovators to scale up their ideas. Alma Forest is collaborating with the Learning Planet Alliance as part of their Teachers for the Planet programme and Alma Forest will feature as an educational model that inspires action. Working with the Aga Khan Foundation and Teach For All, this programme will culminate in an event at COP28.

Alma Forest School is growing from strength to strength as more families across the world join its community, relocating to Costa del Sol.
