PING Junior Solheim Cup, el mejor prólogo para el torneo más importante del golf femenino
La Zagaleta, en la localidad malagueña de Benahavís, acogerá los días 18 y 19 de septiembre la versión junior de la Solheim Cup, una competición creada en 2002 y que se ha convertido en una de las citas amateur más significativas a nivel mundial.
Una competición transatlántica que también enfrentara a EE.UU. y Europa, y que, a imagen y semejanza de la Solheim Cup, se convirtiera en el mejor escenario para que las futuras estrellas del golf femenino pudieran competir al más alto nivel y empezaran a vivir y a sentir la pasión del torneo más importante del golf femenino.
Y la mejor manera de lograr ese objetivo, el de convertir ese torneo junior en el semillero de las futuras golfistas que algún día disputarían la Solheim Cup, fue que se jugara unos días antes en un recorrido cercano, convirtiéndose además, en el mejor preámbulo posible.
De esta manera, 2002 significó el nacimiento de la que se llamó PING Junior Solheim Cup y muy pronto se convirtió por méritos propios en una de las citas internacionales más importantes del calendario amateur femenino.
Sólo hay que ver la magnífica nómina de jugadoras que a lo largo de sus once ediciones han dado el salto de la PING Junior Solheim Cup a la Solheim Cup, con nombres como Paula Creamer, Azahara Muñoz, Britanny Lincicome, Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Carlota Ciganda, Lexi Thompson, Jessica Korda o Georgia Hall.
En esta edición de 2023, cuyo escenario será el magnífico recorrido del campo Old Course de la urbanización La Zagaleta, situado en la localidad malagueña de Benahavís, Europa tendrá la oportunidad de defender el título cosechado en 2021 a domicilio, al igual que hicieron las “mayores”.
De lograrlo, será la primera vez que Europa gane por segunda vez consecutiva la PING Junior Solheim Cup y alcanzará cuatro victorias por ocho del equipo de EE.UU. en el histórico de la competición.
El equipo europeo que intentará hacer historia estará capitaneado por la francesa Gwladys Nocera, a la que ayudará la suiza Nora Angehrn como vicecapitana, y estará formado por las españolas Cloe Amión, Anna Cañadó, Andrea Revuelta y Rocío Tejedo; las suecas Nora Sundberg, Josefin Widal y Meja Örtengren; la suiza Yana Beeli; la alemana Helen Briem; la belga Savannah de Bock; la italiana Francesca Fiorellini y la checa Denisa Vodickova.
Enfrente tendrá al combinado estadounidense, que hará todo lo posible para recuperar el trofeo. Para ello estará comandado por Amy Alcott y Libby Burroughs, capitana y vicecapitana respectivamente, y completado por Leigh Chien, Gianna Clemente, Anna Davis, Kathryn Ha, Irene Kim, Ryleigh Knaub, Jasmine Koo, Megan Meng, Elizabeth Rudisill, Anna Song, Asterisk Talley y Yana Wilson.

PING Junior Solheim Cup, the best prologue to the most important tournament in women's golf
La Zagaleta, in the Malaga town of Benahavís, will host on 18 and 19 September the junior version of the Solheim Cup, a competition created in 2002 and which has become one of the most significant amateur events in the world.
Twelve years after Karsten and Louise Solheim created the Solheim Cup, John Solheim, current President and CEO of PING, wanted to complete the legacy of his parents with the creation of a similar event but designed exclusively for junior players.
A transatlantic competition that would also pit the USA and Europe against each other, and that, in the image of the Solheim Cup, would become the best stage for the future stars of women's golf to compete at the highest level and begin to live and feel the passion of the most important tournament in women's golf.
And the best way to achieve this objective, that of turning this junior tournament into the breeding ground for the future golfers who would one day play in the Solheim Cup, was to play it a few days before at a nearby course, making it the best possible preamble.
Thus, 2002 marked the birth of what was called the PING Junior Solheim Cup and it soon became one of the most important international events on the women's amateur calendar on its own merits.
Just look at the magnificent list of players who have made the leap from the PING Junior Solheim Cup to the Solheim Cup over its eleven editions, with names such as Paula Creamer, Azahara Muñoz, Britanny Lincicome, Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Carlota Ciganda, Lexi Thompson, Jessica Korda and Georgia Hall.
