La belga Manon De Roey se hizo con el primer título en solitario de la temporada en las Aramco Team Series tras firmar una ronda final de seis bajo par sin bogeys en el Thai Country Club. De Roey mantuvo la calma a pesar de las sofocantes temperaturas para derrotar a la heroína local y líder de la noche, Patty Tavatanakit, y conseguir la primera victoria de su carrera.
La número 13 del mundo, Tavatanakit, llevaba dos golpes de ventaja tras la segunda ronda del debut de las Aramco Team Series - Bangkok presentado por el Fondo de Inversión Pública, lo que la consolidaba como favorita para hacerse con la corona en la competición individual de tres días de duración, dotada con 500.000 dólares. Pero mientras la campeona del ANA Inspiration 2021 luchaba por conseguir un 73 sobre par en la última jornada, su compañera de juego, De Roey, se lució con seis birdies y se alzó con una victoria de tres golpes y su primer título en el Tour.
"Me siento muy bien", dijo De Roey, la primera belga que gana un título del LET en 25 años. "Llevaba mucho tiempo esperando esto, así que estoy muy contenta. "Ha sido un día muy bueno. Empecé con bastante fuerza. Le estaba pegando muy cerca, hice birdie en el segundo. Tuve paciencia y metí algunos buenos putts. "He estado trabajando mucho en mi juego, tratando de ser paciente para ganar. El año pasado esperaba esto, así que estoy muy contento de haberlo conseguido este año".
Jugado en tres días, este fue el primer torneo de las Aramco Team Series que se disputa bajo el nuevo formato de 2022, en el que su elemento de equipo con un fondo de 500.000 dólares -en el que tres profesionales del LET forman equipo con un golfista amateur- se disputa en sólo 36 hoyos.
Las Aramco Team Series, que ya cuentan con cinco pruebas por temporada, se dirigen ahora al Reino Unido para celebrar la Aramco Team Series - Londres, que tendrá lugar en el Centurion Club de St. Le seguirán las Aramco Team Series - Sotogrande (La Reserva Club De Sotogrande, del 18 al 20 de agosto), las Aramco Team Series - Nueva York (sede por confirmar, 13-15 de octubre) y las Aramco Team Series - Jeddah (Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, 9-11 de noviembre).

- Belgium’s Manon De Roey bagged the Ladies European Tour’s first Aramco Team Series solo title of the season after carding a bogey-free six-under-par closing round at Thai Country Club.
De Roey kept her cool in stifling temperatures to topple local hero and overnight leader Patty Tavatanakit and earn her first career win. World #13 Tavatanakit led by two after the second round of the debut Aramco Team Series – Bangkok presented by Public Investment Fund, firmly cementing her as favourite to claim the crown in the three-day event’s $500,000 individual competition. But as the 2021 ANA Inspiration champion struggled to a final day one-over-par 73, playing partner De Roey flourished, finding six birdies as she romped to a three-shot victory and her maiden Tour title.
“It feels great,” said De Roey – the first Belgian to win an LET title in 25 years. “I was waiting for this for a long time so I’m very happy. “It was actually a really good day. I started quite strongly. I was hitting it quite close, made birdie on the second. I just stayed patient and I dropped in some good putts. “I’ve been working hard on my game, just trying to stay patient for the win. I was really hoping for this last year, so I'm really happy I got it now this year.”
Played over three days, this was the first Aramco Team Series tournament to run under 2022’s new format, in which its $500,000 prize-fund team element – where three LET professionals team up with an amateur golfer – is battled out over only 36 holes. That title was claimed a day earlier by Team Hillier: Australian Whitney Hillier, Krista Bakker of Finland, Thailand’s Chonlada Chayanun, and Bangkok businessman Pattanan Amatanon.
Now up to five events per season, the Aramco Team Series next heads to the UK for the Aramco Team Series – London, which will take place at Centurion Club in St. Albans, June 16-18th. That will be followed by the Aramco Team Series – Sotogrande (La Reserva Club De Sotogrande, August 18-20th), the Aramco Team Series – New York (Venue TBC, October 13-15th,) and the Aramco Team Series – Jeddah (Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, November 9-11th).
