Faltan sólo unas horas para el inicio de Aramco Team Series 2022

El Aramco Team Series, presentado por el Public Investment Fund, vuelve en 2022 y trae un nuevo formato, una nueva ubicación, más dinero en premios y la promesa de cinco emocionantes eventos internacionales en el Ladies European Tour. En el calendario de la temporada 2021 del LET, el ATS introdujo cuatro nuevos torneos de un millón de dólares en los que muchas de las mayores y mejores jugadoras de golf femenino se enfrentaron en formato individual y por equipos.

El año pasado, la serie hizo escala en Londres, Sotogrande, Nueva York y Yeda, e invitó a más de 30 capitanas de equipo en cada ubicación a hacer una selección de su primera compañera de equipo al estilo de la NFL, antes de que se les asignara otra profesional del Tour seleccionada al azar, y luego se les asignara un jugador amateur local para completar el Fourball.

Los eventos, que impresionaron a todo el mundo, trajeron consigo nuevos elementos de diversión y estilo, con los equipos entrando en el tee al ritmo de música elegida por ellos, y el «golfista dominguero» descubriendo a menudo que tenía que utilizar la fuerza de su hándicap para embocar putts fundamentales para que su equipo subiera en la tabla de clasificación en busca de un premio mayor para los profesionales, así como la esencial Race to Costa del Sol y los puntos del ranking Rolex.

La serie volverá en 2022, esta vez con una nueva parada: Tailandia.

El Aramco Team Series Bangkok, presentado por el Public Investment Fund, se jugará en el Thai Country Club del 12 al 14 de mayo y añadirá otro millón de dólares a la dotación de premios de la temporada y dará el pistoletazo de salida al segundo año del ATS en el calendario del LET.

Un nuevo formato pensado para acelerar el juego y ofrecer más emoción

El año pasado, el Aramco Team Series se convirtió en la primera serie de eventos por equipos de este tipo en cualquier circuito profesional, con un nuevo diseño que combina de forma única el formato individual y por equipos. Este año se revisará el formato con una prueba por equipos, que incluye 26 equipos de cuatro personas (3 profesionales y un afortunado aficionado), el cual se desarrollará únicamente durante los dos primeros días, contando las dos mejores puntuaciones por hoyo, con una dotación de premios de 500 000 dólares en juego. Paralelamente, se celebrará una prueba individual por golpes, con la tercera y última ronda para las personas que pasen el corte en una eliminatoria del último día, en la que se ofrecerán otros 500 000 dólares.

Talentos locales y estrellas internacionales

Esta semana en Bangkok se reunirá un trío de las principales superestrellas del golf tailandés: la estrella internacional Patty Tavatanakit, la número 14 del mundo, la exnúmero uno del mundo y ganadora de dos majors Ariya Jutanugarn y su hermana Moriya son algunas de las principales representantes locales. A ellas se une otro talento local de 18 años, Chanoknan «April» Angurasaranee, la jugadora más destacada en la reciente Copa Mixta Asiática de Golf en el Siam Country Club, y su compatriota Chonlada Chatanun. La inglesa Charley Hull y la estrella estadounidense Kelly Whaley son dos inclusiones que hay que seguir de cerca junto a una serie de líderes del LET. El año pasado, el Aramco Team Series contó con estrellas como Georgia Hall, Nelly Korda, Anna Nordqvist, Danielle Kang, Alison Lee y Lexi Thompson.

Eventos al alcance de mayores audiencias globales

«Desde la calidad de los campos hasta los materiales, las instalaciones y la hospitalidad, el Aramco Team Series eleva los estándares del golf en todos los ámbitos», comentó Alex Armas, directora general del LET. «Para muchas de nuestras jugadoras, estos eventos les hacen sentir como si jugaran en competiciones del máximo nivel y les hace la misma ilusión que jugar en ellas».

Además, la distribución de las emisiones de este año hará que el Aramco Team Series se emita en 117 territorios, un número récord, con un alcance estimado de 330 millones de hogares, lo que dará más exposición a más golfistas del LET y a las estrellas locales de cada mercado.

The Aramco Team Series presented by the Public Investment Fund is back for 2022 – and has brought with it a new format, a new location, more prizemoney and the promise of five thrilling global events on the Ladies European Tour. Added to the LET’s 2021 season calendar, the ATS has introduced four new $1million tournaments in which many of the biggest and best players in women’s golf battled it out in both a team and individual format.

The Series last year stopped in London, Sotogrande in southern Spain, New York and Jeddah, inviting more than 30 team captains at each spot to make an NFL-style draft pick for their first teammate, before being given another randomly selected Tour pro, then being assigned a local amateur player to complete their fourball.

Impressing the world over, the events brought with them a new sense of fun and flair, with teams walking to the tee to their choice of music – and the amateur ‘Sunday golfer’ often finding themselves having to use the strength of their handicap to hole putts vital to their team climbing the leaderboard in the quest for higher prizemoney for the professionals, vital Race to Costa del Sol and Rolex ranking points.

For 2022, the Series returns, this time with a brand-new stop: Thailand.

Being played at the Thai Country Club May 12-14^th, the Aramco Team Series Bangkok presented by the Public Investment Fund will add another $1million to the season prize-fund, and will tee-off the ATS’ second year on the LET calendar.

A new format set to speed play up and offer even greater buzz

Last year saw the Aramco Team Series become the first team event series of its kind on any professional tour with a new format that uniquely combines individual and team format. This year will see the revised format with the team event that includes 26 teams of four (3 professionals and a lucky amateur) taking place over the first two days only with the best two scores per hole counting with a $500,000 prize fund up for grabs. Running concurrently will be an individual strokeplay event with the third and final round for individuals making the cut in a last day shootout and another separate $500,000 on offer.

Local talent and international stars

This week sees a trio of Thailand’s top golfing superstars in Bangkok with international star Patty Tavatanakit, world number 14, former world No. 1 and two-time major winner Ariya Jutanugarn and sister Moriya are some of the local headliners. They are joined by local 18 year-old talent Chanoknan ‘April’ Angurasaranee the leading female player at the recent Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup at Siam Country Club and fellow countrywoman Chonlada Chatanun. England’s Charley Hull and breakout US star Kelly Whaley are exciting names to watch alongside a host of LET leading lights. Last year’s Aramco Team Series saw stars such as Georgia Hall, Nelly Korda, Anna Nordqvist, Danielle Kang, Alison Lee and Lexi Thompson all tee it up. 

Elevated events to bigger global audiences

‘From the quality of the courses to the build, facilities and the hospitality the Aramco Team Series is elevating the standards across the board,” said Alex Armas, LET, CEO. “To many of our members, these events feel like majors — and they look forward to playing in them almost as much.” And this year’s broadcast distribution will see the Aramco Team Series shown in a record 117 territories to an estimated reach of 330m households giving more exposure to more LET golfers and local stars from each market.
