¿Cómo germinó la idea Arus Andalucía? Un proyecto que no solo involucra el desarrollo y diseño de un coche de Fórmula 1 sino también su puesta en marcha y la comprobación de resultado.

Nace en 2012 en la escuela de ingeniería técnica. Se formó a base de unos cuantos estudiantes sin apenas recursos, pero empezaron a investigar y fue al año siguiente cuando ya estaba rodando el primer monoplaza en Fórmula Student, convirtiéndose en el primer coche de Andalucía que participaba en esta competición.

No solo os ocupáis de la parte más práctica del desarrollo del coche sino también de la estructura y organización, su visibilidad, página web, redes sociales…

Efectivamente. De hecho, el equipo está estructurado como una mediana empresa, con una directiva y con unos departamentos. Entre esos departamentos encontramos el de marketing que es como el de redes sociales. En total somos 120 personas trabajando para crear un proyecto común, eso es muy bonito. Aquí se puede decir que trabajan casi todas las facultades de la universidad de Sevilla: ingenieros, comunicación, empresariales, física, matemática, etc.

Es un mundo que te apasiona y disfrutas ¿te gustaría en el futuro hacerlo?

Para mí sería un sueño poder terminar trabajando en el mundo del automovilismo. De hecho, la Fórmula Student es muy famosa para las personas que nos queremos dedicar a esto porque se le conoce como la cantera de la Fórmula 1.

A veces resulta complicado compaginar los estudios con todo lo que implica la creación del automóvil. Lo peor es cuando hay altas cargas de trabajo de tener que montar alguna pieza o cuando se acercan las competiciones, pero es algo que disfrutas y acabas sacando el tiempo.

¿Estáis presentando los nuevos proyectos?

Ya estamos con los nuevos proyectos, estamos con el coche que va a competir en 2024 el ART 2024, hemos terminado el chasis y comenzaremos con el ensamblaje del coche. Lo más ilusionante es que vamos a hacer el primer coche andaluz que va a ser autónomo, sin piloto, para que pueda competir en verano en esa categoría autónoma.

“It would be a dream to work in the world of Formula 1”

An exciting project Ricardo Andrades, an engineering student at the University of Seville, is part of one of the most innovative ideas, the Arus Andalucía Racing Team, the first team from Andalusia competing in the Fórmula Student.

How did the idea for Arus Andalucía come about? A project that not only involves the development and design of a Formula 1 car, but also the launch and testing of the result.

It was created in 2012 in the technical engineering school. It was formed by some students who barely had any resources, but they began to research and the next year the first single-seater was competing in Fórmula Student, becoming the first car in Andalusia to participate in this competition.

You don’t only deal with the most practical part of car development but also with the structure and organisation, its visibility, website, social networks...

Indeed. In fact, the team is structured like a medium sized company, with management and departments. The departments including marketing which is like social networks. In total, there are 120 people working to create a shared project, it is very beautiful. Here, we can say that almost all the faculties of the University of Seville are involved: engineers, communication, business, physics, maths, etc.

It is a world that excites you and that you enjoy, would you like to do it in the future?

For me, it would be a dream to end up working in the world of motor racing. In fact, the Fórmula Student is very famous for people who want to work in it because it is known as the academy of Formula 1.

Sometimes it is difficult to combine studies with everything involved in the creation of a car. The worst part is when there are heavy workloads from having to assemble a piece or when the competitions are approaching, but it is something you enjoy and you end up making time.

Are you presenting the new projects?

We are already working on the new projects, we are dealing with the car that is going to compete in 2024 at ART 2024, we have completed the chassis and we will begin assembly of the car. The most exciting part is that we are going to create the first Andalusian car that will be self-driving, driverless, so that it can compete in summer in the self-driving category.
