Un trío de superestrellas del golf tailandés ha sido confirmado para el Aramco Team Series - Bangkok, que tendrá lugar en el Thai Country Club del 12 al 14 de mayo.

La estrella internacional Patty Tavatanakit, número 14 del mundo, hará su debut en el Aramco Team Series en el formato de equipo único e individual el próximo mes. Tavatanakit, de 22 años, saltó a la fama en 2021 al ganar su primer gran premio, al que siguieron múltiples competiciones en las que quedó entre las diez primeras lo que la catapultó en la clasificación mundial, al tiempo que fue coronada como novata del año en la LPGA.

La exnúmero uno del mundo y ganadora de dos grandes premios, Ariya Jutanugarn, es otro de los grandes nombres confirmados para participar en el evento de un millón de dólares de Bangkok respaldado por Aramco. La acompañará su hermana Moriya Jutanugarn, número 42 del mundo, y también se confirmará la presencia de otras promesas tailandesas y asiáticas. El año pasado, en el debut de la temporada del Aramco Team Series, la tailandesa Atthaya Thitikul, número cinco del mundo y ganadora de la LET Race to Costa del Sol en 2021, perdió por poco en una eliminatoria en la primera prueba de Londres.

Patty Tavatanakit comentó: "Es increíble que torneos mundiales como el Aramco Team Series lleguen a mi ciudad natal, Bangkok. El Aramco Team Series es la primera serie de eventos por equipos de cualquier circuito profesional, con visitas a Londres, Sotogrande, Nueva York y Yeda tras la primera etapa asiática. El formato, que incluye un sistema de draft dirigido por quienes participen en cada evento, ofrece a más golfistas oportunidades de participar en torneos con la ayuda de los mejores jugadores del planeta. Esta temporada también se revisará el formato del evento, ya que la prueba por equipos se desarrollará durante los dos primeros días, y la tercera y última ronda para quienes pasen el corte será una eliminatoria el último día.

Ariya Jutanugarn añadió: "He oído cosas muy positivas sobre el Aramco Team Series, ya que tiene un formato nuevo y ofrece la posibilidad de jugar y conectar con diferentes jugadoras del LET. El Aramco Team Series Bangkok dará inicio a los torneos de 2022 en el Thai Country Club, del 12 al 14 de mayo, y se dirigirá luego a Londres (Centurion Club, del 16 al 18 de junio), Sotogrande (La Reserva Club de Sotogrande, del 18 al 20 de agosto), Nueva York (lugar por confirmar, del 13 al 15 de octubre) y Yeda (Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, del 9 al 11 de noviembre).

Thailand stars confirmed for next month’s debut Aramco Team Series - Bangkok 

• Patty Tavatanakit and Jutanugarn sisters to feature at Thai Country Club on May 12-14 as part of the Ladies European Tour.

• Updated format sees team event taking place over the first two rounds with individuals making the cut involved in the final day third round shootout.

• Series features five tournaments in Thailand, UK, Spain, USA and Saudi Arabia with a $5m total purse in further boost for women’s golf.

A trio of Thailand’s top golfing superstars have all been confirmed for the Aramco Team Series - Bangkok, taking place at Thai Country Club on May 12-14. 

Breakout international star Patty Tavatanakit, the world number 14, will make her Aramco Team Series debut in the unique team and individual format next month. Tavatanakit, 22, shot to fame in 2021 by winning her first major, followed by multiple top ten performances that catapulted her up the world rankings whilst also being crowned LPGA rookie of the year. 

Former world number one and two-time major winner Ariya Jutanugarn is another big name confirmed to tee it up in Bangkok at the $1m Aramco-backed event. She will be joined by sister Moriya Jutanugarn, the world number 42, with a host of other up and coming Thai and Asian players also set to be confirmed. Last year’s debut Aramco Team Series season saw Thai world number five and 2021 LET Race to Costa del Sol winner Atthaya Thitikul narrowly lose in a play-off in London’s debut event.

The Aramco Team Series is golf’s first team event series on any professional tour – with visits to London, Sotogrande, New York and Jeddah following its opening Asian leg. The format, which includes a player-led draft at each event, gives more golfers tournament opportunities helped by teaming up with the best players on the planet. This season will also see a revised format for the event with the team event taking place over the first two days, with the third and final round for individuals making the cut in a last day shootout. 

Ariya Jutanugarn added: “I’ve heard really positive things about the Aramco Team Series with a fresh format and the chance to play and connect with different players on the LET. It gives players a lot more to play for during a tournament week both as a team and as an individual. I’ve enjoyed success before in team formats alongside my sister Moriya – so I’m looking forward to seeing who I get to team up with in the draft and a chance to host them on home soil in Thailand.”
